GAME SUMMARY

Voyager Academy Volleyball team won Monday's conference match at Oxford Prep Academy by a score of 3 - 1 Sets (25 - 16; 25 - 15; 19 - 25; 25 - 13).

Playing on the road at Oxford Prep for the first time, the Lady Vikings made certain they would not take the other conference newcomer for granted taking control early in the game to dispense the Lady Griffins in Set 1 by a score of 25 -16.  By the way if you didn't know, Voyager's opponent school mascot "Griffin" is a legendary Egyptian creature that has the body of a lion, in addition to, head/feet & wings of a eagle.

Switching sides of the net didn't help the host team very much as Voyager continued to pour it on capturing Set 2 by a score of 25 -15.  Taking their foot off the throttle in the third set, the Lady Vikings committed several miscues allowing the Lady Griffins to gain a lead they were able to sustain for the duration of the set.  Not prepared to make this a long night for the team nor their roadie fans, Voyager quickly made the necessary adjustments during the break and hit the "On" switch to motor past their now grounded opponent in Set 4 by a score of 25 -13.

Freshman #7 Katie McLamb (14 kills, 15 digs) took flight in the middle launching lethal attacks, while Senior Libero #22 Zarria Bratts (20 digs) hand delivered 25 points with consistent pin-point serves throughout the match.  The two earned Voyager "Co-Players of the Match" recognition for their efforts.  Voyager Junior Setters #3 Kaley Stone and #16 Briggs Rose controlled the ship's navigational gear dishing out 18 assists and 7 assists, respectively.

Joining for the road show, Voyager Senior #4 Caitlin Leggett (6 kills, 12 digs); Senior #15 Stacey Oxendine (11 digs); Junior #2 Kamryn Boyce (6 kills); Sophomore #5 Ashlyn Annis (5 kills); and Senior #11 Alyssa Greene (4 kills) provided back-up chorus, along with #9 Ellie Stockton (Jr) and #12 Summer Matthews (Fr) who each recorded a kill a piece.

After the game Voyager head Coach Steve DeLuca noted; "Our ladies did what was needed to win today, and of course we're proud of them.  We're moving in the right direction."

Voyager Academy (7-7 record; 3-3 conference) head home next to meet Falls Lake Academy in a rematch on Wednesday, 9/26/17.  Game time is 6 pm.
