GAME SUMMARY

Voyager Academy Volleyball team won at home against non-conference opponent Southern High School by a score of 3 - 0 Sets (25 - 5; 25 - 11; 25 - 17).

The Lady Vikings were all business in front of their home crowd on this night overpowering the Lady Spartans before they could even blink an eye.  Voyager wasted little time to make a statement launching one ballistic missile after another on the visiting Southern High forces.  Playing almost flawlessly in Set 1, the team rolled early as Senior Stacey Oxendine (DS) propelled eight consecutive service rockets, including five unreturnable service aces.  Before the visitors could pick themselves up off the welcome mat canvass, Voyager had built a 14 - 2 lead.  From that point on the Vikings kept the foot on the gas to closeout the set never once looking in their rear view mirror.

The Voyager siege continued in Set 2 with more full frontal assault as the Lady Vikings took a commanding lead 14 - 5 midway into the set.  Playing strong defense, passing crisply and relentlessly attacking, the Viking's only relinquished a handful of points to the Spartans before closing the door to Set 2.  The Lady Vikings briefly eased off the throttle in Set 3 allowing the Lady Spartans to gain a 9 - 4 advantage mostly through unforced errors.  Voyager proceeded to ambush the Spartans once again routing artillery from every direction for ten unanswered points.  The high voltage Viking barrage accelerated finalizing the inevitable for the now weary and deflated guest team.

Senior Caitlin Leggett (7 kills, 7 digs) headed the Viking assault and was named "Player of the Game", while Senior Libero Zarria Bratts lead the team defensively with 13 digs.  Freshman Katie McLamb, Sophomore Ashley Annis, and Freshman Summer Matthews combined for 18 kills.  Junior Setters Kaley Stone and Briggs Rose guided the super charged Viking starship, passing the rock to their arsenal with perfection.

Voyager's head Coach Steve DeLuca noted. "Our ladies took care of business tonight.  They are really coming together as a team, and progressing quite well.  This was a good win for us."

Voyager Academy (4 - 2 record) host East Wake Academy on Monday, 8/28/17.  Game time is 6 pm.
