GAME SUMMARY

Voyager Academy Volleyball team won Friday's non-conference rematch at Southern High School by a score of 3 - 2 Sets (25 - 10; 25 - 10; 25 - 17).

The Lady Vikings completed the season home-and-home sweep of the Spartans making short work of it, and making it a wonderful day in the neighborhood for the tailgating Viking fans.  Voyager's convincing 3-set victory also came as a definite relief for the team having endured two previous nights of five set heart-breaking classics.

The jovial bunch from the boulevard castoff the Viking vessel in Set 1, and proceeded to open waters.  Fab Freshman #7 Katie McLamb (9 kills, 10 digs) got the engine cranked releasing multiple ballistic missiles on the Southern ladies.  And, it didn't take long for the Voyager Cruise Ship Senior Captain #4 Caitlin Leggett (11 kills, 15 digs) to follow-up dropping several depth charges along the ocean waves enabling crew member Sophomore #5 Ashlyn Annis (6 kills) to push the throttle forward for 7 consecutive service points and churn the vessel on course at building an early 13 - 6 comfortable cushion.  From that point, the Vikings never looked back again in the set.

The Vikings continued their nautical mastery in Set 2 as Junior #2 Kamryn Boyce (7 kills) joined the whirlwind act delivering additional available artillery stored in the ship's hull.  Voyager "Player of the Game" Senior #15 Stacey Oxendine (21 digs) lead the team effort to smother the Spartans defensively with assistance from the remaining cast Seniors #22 Zarria Bratts (Lib) and #11 Alyssa Greene (OH), duplicating the previous set score results.

The Lady Vikings gleefully wrapped-up the third set voyage albeit a bit more challenged by the youthful Lady Spartans.  Voyager Junior Setters #3 Kaley Stone (17 assists) and #16 Briggs Rose (16 assists) combined for 33 assists on the evening.

Voyager head Coach Steve DeLuca commented after the game. "Our ladies played quite well today.  We still have a few areas to work on, however all-in-all we're pleased with the effort and outcome of the game."

Voyager Academy (6 - 6 record) travel up the road next to meet Vance Charter School (Henderson, NC) on Wednesday, 9/13/17.  Game time is 6 pm.
